Reiki is a Japanese energy practice in which the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body to encourage deep relaxation. The word combines rei (universal) and ki (life energy). Reiki is traditionally taught in levels, each building on the one before.
Reiki Level 1 — healing yourself
The first level focuses on self-practice. Students learn the history and principles of Reiki, receive their first attunement and practise the hand positions for self-treatment and treating friends and family. Many people take Level 1 simply to bring a daily moment of calm into their own lives.
Reiki Level 2 — deepening the practice
Level 2 introduces the traditional Reiki symbols and how to use them, including distance practice. Students gain confidence in giving full sessions to others and in structuring a treatment from start to finish.
Reiki Master — teaching others
The Master level deepens personal practice and prepares students to attune and teach others. It is a step for those who want Reiki to become a central part of their path or profession.
What does a Reiki session feel like?
Sessions are usually given with the receiver lying fully clothed. People often describe warmth, tingling or simply a deep state of rest — similar to the feeling just before sleep.
Reiki and yoga
Reiki fits naturally alongside yoga, meditation and sound healing: all of them invite us to slow down, breathe and listen to the body. At our school, Reiki is taught by Reiki Grand Masters and can be studied on-site or online.
Reiki is a complementary practice for relaxation and wellbeing and does not replace medical care.
